The Unité d’habitation de Marseille, the founding work of architectural Brutalism, is the major test of a new mode of housing based on the balance between the individual and the collective.

The housing unit project, also called Cité Radieuse, is part of a broader project of a new neighborhood in the heart of the forest, in the Lorraine coalfield. The goal is to house the population then in full increase in connection with the expansion of iron mines and the steel industry.

Forming a coherent ensemble called “the Body and Spirit Recreation Center”, the site is located in the neighborhood of Firminy-Vert.

The Bézard-Le Corbusier Espace is dedicated to the utopian project of Radiant Farm and Cooperative Village imagined in the 1930s by Norbert Bézard and Le Corbusier. Plans, models and archives retrace the history of this project.

Maisons La Roche et Jeanneret are the first expression of Purism in architecture.

The Immeuble locatif à la Porte Molitor was the first residential building in the world to have entirely glazed facades.

The building was designed by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret. The Swiss Foundation/Pavilion Le Corbusier is a student residential building, inscribed in a rigid parallelepiped (metal frame building) mounted on imposing stilts in raw concrete decoffrage. The three each current floors house cubbyholes and fifteen rooms, “simple cells-drawers”, distributed by a corridor, as well as collective kitchens.

The Refuge was undertaken by the Salvation Army in 1929 and, after the overcoming of many difficulties, was inaugurated on 7 December 1933. It is the first building for human habitation entirely hermetically sealed, comprising 10,000 ft.2 of fenestration without opening sash. The interior is supplied by a forced air system giving results perfect in winter and quite satisfying in summer. This forced air installation was made on a very small budget. The results were sufficient to permit the best hopes for the future utilization of the system.
