International Conference at the Maison du Brésil – The “1925 Moment”

On 21 and 22 January 2026, the Maison du Brésil, at the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris, will host the international conference The “1925 Moment”: Le Corbusier. Urbanism, Architecture, Painting, Publishing.

Considered a pivotal period in the work and thinking of Le Corbusier and his studio, the “1925 Moment” marks a time of transition. Both the culmination of research initiated as early as the 1910s and the starting point for new directions, this moment unfolds across multiple fields—architecture, urbanism, the arts and publishing—and resists strict chronological boundaries.

Through a cross-disciplinary and multi-perspective approach, the conference aims to examine the richness, complexity and, at times, the tensions of this period, notably marked by the presentation of the Pavillon de l’Esprit Nouveau at the 1925 International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts. Far from being an isolated episode, the “1925 Moment” emerges as a fundamental space-time for understanding the evolution of Le Corbusier’s thinking.

The conference is organised by the Fondation Le Corbusier, the University of Strasbourg, the F.-G. Pariset Research Centre in Art History, and the Maison du Brésil.

It is held in connection with the exhibition 1924–1926. Almanach of a New Spirit. The Pavilion by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts, presented at the Maison La Roche (Paris 16th) from 21 January to 2 March 2026.
