European Heritage Days in the Le Corbusier Sites
The European Heritage Days, a special opportunity to discover Europe’s rich heritage through unique experiences, will be held this year on 9 and 10 September 2023 in Switzerland and Germany and on 16 and 17 September 2023 in France. Here is an overview of the activities on offer at the Le Corbusier sites.
European Heritage Days in Switzerland and Germany – 9 and 10 September 2023
Geneva – Immeuble Clarté
The Clarté Foundation and the Interior Architecture Department of HEAD – Geneva are opening the doors of the former shopping arcades on the ground floor of the Clarté building in Geneva for a weekend. On the programme: conference, performance in the space, night-time activation of the façades and dioramas, co-construction workshop (registration required)… The Society for the History of Art in Switzerland will also be presenting a brand new audio guide dedicated to the Clarté building.

La Chaux-de-Fonds – Maison Blanche
The Maison Blanche Association is taking part in the European Heritage Days with an open day and guided tours on Saturday 9 September between 10am and 5pm. Musical performances will take place throughout the day.

Stuttgart – Weissenhofmuseum in the Le Corbusier House
The Weissenhofmuseum in the Le Corbusier House opens its doors free of charge on Sunday 10 September, with guided tours at 11am, 1pm, 3pm and 5pm. On the ground of the city park Hermann-Lenz-Höhe you can enjoy coffee, cake and cold beverages while visiting the art installation “What will remain? What will come? What will leave?”.

Corseaux – Villa “Le Lac”
To mark Heritage Days, Villa “Le Lac” is offering guided tours in 11 languages: Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Catalan, Spanish, Italian, English, German, Swiss German and French. This linguistic diversity is a reminder that Le Corbusier built all over the world, from Japan to Argentina, via India and Europe.

Eveux – Couvent Sainte-Marie de la Tourette
Visits will be offered throughout the European Heritage Days: 4 visits on Saturday 16, 7 visits on Sunday 17 (single rate of €5/ free for under-12s). Discover also the convent’s new website.

Firminy – Unité d’habitation
Works of art and a workshop, the result of a residency close to the residents, will be offered to the public by the artist FCK under Le Corbusier’s building :
Ceramic workshop (reservation required) – Saturday 16th, 3 pm to 6 pm.
Concert-sound creation – Saturday 16, 4 pm to 6 pm.
Film screening and photo exhibition – Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 from 1pm to 7pm.
Tours of the housing unit will also be available from 2pm to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday (registration required on +33(0)4 77 61 08 72).

Firminy – Eglise Saint-Pierre
Echoing the major sporting events of 2023 and 2024, the Le Corbusier Site is offering an exhibition around sport, its place and role in the city of tomorrow. An exhibition that gets the public moving on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 from 10am to 12:30pm and 1:30pm to 6pm at Saint-Pierre Church.

Firminy – Stade Le Corbusier
Guided tour of the exterior of the building, designed by Le Corbusier and the only stadium in France to be classified as a historic monument, on Saturday 16 at 11 am. Ronchamp – Chapelle Notre-Dame du Haut
Access to The Hill Notre-Dame du Haut and the architectural complex comprising works by Le Corbusier, Jean Prouvé and Renzo Piano will be free throughout the weekend. Themed guided tours will be available: History of the hill, Le Corbusier and light, the restoration site: every 30 minutes from 10am to 12pm and from 1pm to 5pm. / Architecture and spirituality by the chaplain Father Axel: Saturday and Sunday from 3 pm to 4 pm. / Tour of the monastery by a Sister Clarisse: Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm, 2.30pm, 3pm and 3.30pm.

Rezé – Unité d’habitation
The association of residents of the Maison radieuse in Rezé is organising tours on Sunday 17 September. Visit the flats and access the roof terrace accompanied by residents from 10am to 12pm and from 1.30pm to 5pm (tickets available on site). In the park, you can also discorver photos tracing the history of the building.

Paris – Fondation Suisse / Pavillon Le Corbusier
Discover the movie Voyage dans la tanière de béton, produced for the 50th anniversary of the Swiss Foundation in 1983 by two residents, Antonio Pagnotta and Ralph Dutli. Screening in the Courbe Room on 16 and 17 September (free admission).

Marseille – Unité d’habitation
The Tourist Office, in partnership with the residents’ association, is offering guided tours of Marseille’s Cité Radieuse on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 September from 10am to 5pm without prior booking. (Meeting point: Side entrance to the Cité Radieuse Hall – 280 Bd Michelet – 8th arrondissement).

Val de Briey – Unité d’habitation
The association La Première Rue in Val de Briey will be welcoming visitors for a guided tour of the Cité Radieuse and its show flat on Sunday 17 September at 2.15pm and 4.15pm (bookings required at or on 03 82 20 28 55). At the same time, the residents of the Unité d’habitation will be pleased to welcome visitors in their apartments.

Pessac – Cité Frugès-Le Corbusier
As part of the Europeen Heritage Days, the City of Pessac is offering tours -“Experimenting with avant-garde architecture from 1926 to the present day”- on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 September at 10am, 11.30am, 2pm, 3.30pm and 5pm. Roquebrune Cap Martin – Cabanon et Unités de camping de Le Corbusier
The Cap Moderne – Eileen Gray and Le Corbusier site in Cap Martin is opening its doors to the public free of charge and offering guided tours on 16 and 17 September: rediscover emblematic sites of 20th-century architecture such as Villa E1027 by Eileen Gray and Jean Badovici and the Le Corbusier site in Roquebrune Cap Martin. Poissy – Villa Savoye
The Villa Savoye opens its doors free of charge from 10am to 6pm on 16 and 17 September. There will be guided tours to help visitors understand the design of this monument and the five principles of modern architecture. The visit also provides an opportunity to discover the “Habiter la villa” exhibition by visual artist Françoise Pétrovitch.

Roquebrune Cap Martin – Cabanon et Unités de camping de Le Corbusier
The Bézard – Le Corbusier space, dedicated to the rural development project imagined by the two men in the 1930s, “La Ferme radieuse et le village coopératif”, will be open on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 September from 2.30pm to 6pm. Exhibitions, guided tours and a shared meal are on the programme for these two days.
