Le Corbusier, couleurs – Maison blanche

From 4 September to 1 November 2026, rediscover the importance of colour in Le Corbusier’s architectural work through the lens of Yves André, a photographer specialising in architecture, landscapes and archaeology.

Le Corbusier, as much criticized as he is admired, still leaves no one indifferent to this day.
The revolutionary aspect of his architecture – the ‘machine for living’, with its raw concrete and human-centred spaces featuring innovations such as the Modulor – has long been the only aspect highlighted.
Yet a lesser-known but essential component of his buildings involved colour – not as decoration, but as a means of ‘dissolving masses’. It was in this way that he worked with colour just as he did with form.
To capture the power of this theory, Yves André has produced a photographic series highlighting the colours in Le Corbusier’s architecture. By playing with our perception, spaces captured in two dimensions become a path to follow through the space conceived by Le Corbusier, for whom ‘architectural polychromy does not destroy walls, but it can shift them in depth and rank them in importance’.

Exhibition included in the entrance fee to the Maison Blanche in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
