To mark the double anniversary of the Le Corbusier Site in Firminy, Döppel Studio presents SOLAIRE, a sensory odyssey – an immersive experience that explores the interactions between light, architecture and sensory perception. Set within the Church of Saint-Pierre and around the Maison de la Culture, the installation by the two designers, Lionel Dinis-Salazar and Jonathan Omar, transforms Le Corbusier’s iconic architecture into a true sensory journey, where light, shadow and sound narrate the universal cycles, from dawn to dusk, from zenith to eclipse. Inspired by the thinking of Le Corbusier, for whom ‘the sun is the primary element of all architecture’, the project features eight immersive installations that allow visitors to observe different states of light: reflection, diffraction, reverberation, radiation and darkness. The church’s raw concrete becomes a living canvas for experiments with light, revealing the plasticity of architecture and the sensory dimension of light.
