Study Day – [Re]faire la ville. Démarches écologiques et implications habitantes

Thursday 23 May from 9.30am to 5pm at the Maison de la Culture in Firminy.

As part of the exhibition La rue des transitions, tissons la ville de demain, the Site Le Corbusier is organising its 4th study day, in partnership with the École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Saint-Étienne and the Université Jean Monnet Saint-Étienne.

The development and growth trajectory of industrialised societies has rarely been accompanied by consideration for the living world and progress in terms of social justice. As a result, climate change, resource depletion and biodiversity loss, as well as the resulting inequalities, are now major issues for urban and regional players.

These challenges call for possible and essential transitions. They can be achieved through other ways of building cities and regions, through bifurcations, which are just as possible and essential.

By inviting researchers, practitioners in architecture, urban planning and landscape design, and committed players, this study day aims to encourage discussion on the practices and decision-making powers of residents in the transition processes that are helping to (re)shape the city, particularly in working-class neighbourhoods.
